St Oliver Plunkett’s school vision forms the basis of the school’s education program, and guides education and organisational practices in the school. All phases of schooling at St Oliver Plunkett are informed through Brisbane Catholic Education’s Learning and Teaching Framework (2019), the Queensland Catholic Schools and Curriculum (2021), and the Alice Spring’s (Mparntwe) Declaration (2019).
The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration outlines a National Vision and Educational Goals for Young Australians (2019):
- Goal 1: The Australian education system promotes excellence and equity
- Goal 2: All young Australians become confident and creative individuals, successful lifelong learners, and active and informed members of the community.
St Oliver Plunkett’s Vision and Mission is intrinsically linked to these goals and is embedded in the school’s Vision for Learning.
- Excellence and equity – ‘…inspire each child to achieve their full potential’, dynamic learning is ‘inclusive , collaborative, reflective and engaging’ and changes and progresses student learning and achievement
- Lifelong learners – ‘We are spiritual, lifelong learners…’
- Confident and creative; Active and informed members of the community; – ‘… on our journey to becoming critical and creative contributors in our ever changing world'
St Oliver Plunkett Catholic Primary School implements the Australian Curriculum for Prep – Year 6. The curriculum emphasises the importance of knowledge, understanding and skills in all subject areas, General Capabilities and Cross-curriculum Priorities, as the basis for a curriculum designed to support 21st century learning.
The Australian Curriculum describes a learning entitlement for each Australian student that provides foundations for successful, lifelong learning and participation in the Australian community. It acknowledges that the needs and interests of students will vary, and that schools and teachers plan from the curriculum in ways that respond to those needs and interests.
The Australian Curriculum sets out what all young people should be taught through the specification of curriculum content and the learning expected at points in their schooling through the specification of Achievement Standards (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, 2011).
